The South Shore Regional School Board has developed a plan to review governance policies during the school year. Some policies are outdated and need to be updated or rescinded, some are being replaced by Ministerial Policy while in some instances, new policies are required. Within the policy framework, there are administrative procedures that also need to be reviewed in conjunction with the policy.
Throughout this process, the SSRSB would like to engage School Advisory Councils by requesting their consideration and input in reviewing, updating or revamping policy and procedure. To that end, staff have created a SSRSB Policies and Procedures Review Checklist to guide discussions at the SAC table as well as for staff review of policy and procedure. This policy review checklist is meant as a guide and should not be seen as all inclusive because not all possible questions, ideas or concerns can be anticipated.
The following policy has gone through the revision process to the point where SAC input is requested. The policy includes all revisions of current policy. You will see changes highlighted and strikeouts present where the text is being considered for removal.
The SSRSB’s request is that SAC members review the policies and administrative procedures using the SSRSB Policies and Procedures Review Checklist and return suggestions, comments and ideas to email@example.com.
We would suggest starting with Policy 101 and returning the review checklist and any other documents required to record the SAC’s suggestions. Alternatively, your SAC could establish policy working groups to review several policies concurrently, reporting back to the SAC as a whole. SAC Chairs, please collaborate with the Principal in how this input can best be harvested and reported back to the SSRSB.
The SSRSB knows that SAC meetings may not be regularly scheduled at your school rather be organized on an ad hoc basis, so please work through policies as your meeting schedules allow.
