Extreme weather may impact schools on Friday

As a result of the heavy rain and strong wind late this afternoon and predicted overnight, some schools may be impacted tomorrow (e.g. power failure, loss of heat). We will be checking each school earlier than usual tomorrow morning to ensure they are fully operational three hours before the school is scheduled to open. Once we’ve checked the schools in the morning, if there are any issues, a decision will be made to close the school for the day. We will inform you of a school closure in the normal manner: local and provincial media (CKBW, HANK FM, CBC Radio, AVR/Magic 97, QCCR and Global Halifax) are notified; the information is posted on our website (ssrce.ca), on Facebook and Twitter; and ALERT messages are sent via email to families in the region.

Please note: our staff are not able to check on each school at the same time. As a result, information will keep coming in from 5:00 to about 6:45 a.m. and communication will occur throughout the morning. Please keep listening to the radio and regularly check our website and social media to determine if your school will be closed for the day.

Also, power outages throughout the region can affect social media. ALWAYS listen to your local radio station as they are the first to be notified of any closures.

Thank you for your patience as we weather this together!
